Every year about this time, I begin looking back… tracking the changes that happened over the past year, and looking forward to what is to come.
2016 has wrought a lot of changes, we’ve parted with many good people, and met a few new friends. The days became memories filed away to be brought out when we least expect, or when we want to remember.
And our present…
Such a vital part of every single moment is the past that we’ve experienced, how we’ve lived, the choices we’ve made… These have all brought us to this moment, the people we are now, and who we will become.
The present is when we have the option to gather up all the memories and determine which ones will carry us through. Which ones will we hold onto and carry close, and which ones we will choose to let go. These are the moments when we begin the process of breaking in a New Year.
We can keep the bad habits, and let them drag us down. Hold onto the sad memories, and spend our time in the new year crying over our past, or we can grow. We can choose to let go of those painful memories, leave them where they belong, and find the good.
This day, I choose to find the good. I choose to be a blessing in the New Year. So, while I’m breaking in the New Year, setting my memories in stone, holding tight to the ones that are true and dear…. I will pray you’re doing the same. And I’ll remember fondly, that every year comes with wonder, presents, and power to be a better person than I was the year before.
